Seriously — after sardines you wanted more? Ok, here’s the deal, Sam has a passion for real estate, negotiation, and client service. Since forming the Gottesman Chapin Group with Dan Gottesman in 2015, Sam & Dan have sold nearly $500,000,000 in luxury homes. As part of Engel & Völkers elite Private Office Advisor Group, they are consistently among the top 1% of Engel & Völkers brokers worldwide every year. Dan & Sam sold the highest priced property that traded in Washington State in 2025 — $26,000,000. Though many of their listings are waterfront, they treat all listings with the same level of dedication and professionalism.

Over the past 30+ years, Sam has bought, sold, and managed mixed-use commercial and residential apartment buildings in Seattle and Mercer Island. His experience as a commercial owner and manager is a key benefit to his services as a broker.

Sam has also practiced law for over 30 years. After graduating from the University of Washington, Sam earned his law degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Sam’s legal career focused entirely on litigation: first as a civil trial attorney for a Seattle law firm, then as a King County criminal prosecutor. Sam has served as a pro tem judge, and taught law for 20 years at the University of Washington Law School as well as other law schools around the country. 

Sam and his wife, Loretta, have two girls, a boy, and the memories of their Labradoodle named Dory.
